Goodbye Google →
Douglas Bowman, Visual Design Lead at Google:
Yes, it’s true that a team at Google couldn’t decide between two blues, so they’re testing 41 shades between each blue to see which one performs better. I had a recent debate over whether a border should be 3, 4 or 5 pixels wide, and was asked to prove my case. I can’t operate in an environment like that. I’ve grown tired of debating such miniscule...

Torus: a game using simply HTML 5's canvas →
It’s incredible to see a fully-functional tetris-like game, written entirely using HTML 5’s canvas. If you don’t think this is awesome, compare this to a flash game while Activity Monitor’s open.

PeepCode's REST for Rails 2 Screencast →
I’d highly recommend this screencast to anyone who is learning how to develop Ruby on Rails web applications. While it doesn’t explain the absolute basics of Rails, it does a very thorough job at explaining the concept of REST.

Please Fix the iPhone →
I wonder how many of these most wanted features will be implemented into the iPhone 3.0 software. I’m really hoping for multi-tasking, copy and paste, wireless sync, basic flash support, and a better way to manage applications. How about you?

Best Buy is one of those companies that I frequently find myself giving business to, but yet, I also frequently despise them. However, they really seem to be onto something amazing with their Remix APIs.
Today at SXSW Best Buy officially made their Remix APIs public (US-only, not Canada, unfortunately). Their Remix APIs essentially allow developers to lookup product info, prices, availability,...

I have a problem with Pages.
I save things excessively. Just ask anyone who I share a Dropbox folder with. After I finish a paragraph, a table, or am ready to print, I hit save. Always.
Whenever I print a document out of Pages, its save state will always change to the you-have-something-you-need-to-save state. Every. Single. Time.
Now, back to homework.

Now you can flip between Dashboard pages with the left (←) and right (→) arrow keys. This is great if you’re trying to navigate the Dashboard with a sandwich in one hand.
Unrelated: I’m eating a sandwich right now.

Dropbox's Brilliant Referral System →
The Dropbox team continues to impress me with their brilliance. A couple of days ago they came out with a referral program that gives each user (the inviter and the invitee) an extra 250MB (or 500MB if you’re a premium member). A referral isn’t just a signup though, it’s an installation. The invitee has to actually install Dropbox onto their system, and be from a different IP...

nikf:
I don’t mind the use of a spinner to show things (like the resolving of a domain - god knows that can be an issue on slower connections), but the notion that I’m going to sit here and wait whilst Safari tells me “Hey, I’m doing shit right now. Wait a bit and you’ll get some pages shown, K?” is just wrong.
I couldn’t agree more.
Safari 4 Hidden Preferences →
I’m going to give Safari 4’s default interface a try for a week or so (and I recommend you do the same), but I’m afraid I might end going back to the old tab style after that. :(

Canadians can read your mind. →
“A team of researchers from the University of Toronto has developed a brain-scanning headset that can detect a person’s preferences, with an accuracy of 80%. The headset is fitted with fibre-optic cables that emit infrared light at around the same frequency as a typical TV remote control.”

The Myth of Talent →
Michael Mistretta:
Becoming good at something takes a lot more than just talent. It takes hard work — pure, unbiased, hard work. Pressing on, day after day. Pulling your hair out in frustration, night after night. It’s definitely much easier to believe in luck, instead of actually having to put hard work, time, and effort into something.
